Mike Nelson, Founder and Chairman

Mike Nelson works at the intersection of mobility, tech, insurance, and law. He is keenly focused on the disruptive technologies affecting these sectors. He has focused his legal and insurance career on mobility-related topics. His 40+ year career is built upon practical experience starting as an auto body mechanic in his dad’s body shop in Providence, Rhode Island. This led to his life as an insurance adjuster through the Regional Claims Manager for Metropolitan Insurance. 

Mike attended Temple Law School while working full-time, raising a family, and became a litigation attorney specializing in the automotive and insurance space. He is licensed to practice law in five states and is admitted to practice in 13 U.S. district and circuit courts and the U.S. Supreme Court. Mike serves as a board member on the Rand Corporation’s Institute of Civil Justice and sits on Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Data Logger and EDR committees.  Mike is also member of the Board of Directors at Partners for Automotive Vehicle Education. 

As Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) technology began to emerge, Mike purchased a 2016 Tesla Model S, 90D in Orange County, California, and drove it cross-country to New York City to learn the technology. Mike now owns a 2019 Tesla Model 3 and regularly reports on its unexpected behaviors in various traffic scenarios.

Mike is currently evaluating hundreds of accidents involving ADAS level technology. He’s widely recognized as a thought leader in the automotive, legal, and insurance arenas. He has been asked to share his views on this by many organizations in these fields, including The U.S. Treasury, Federal Insurance Office.
